How to Build a PVC Greenhouse
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is a popular material from which to craft greenhouses. If you are unsure of how to build a PVC greenhouse, you will find plenty of books and plans available to help you. PVC is a popular material because it is flexible and heat resistant. In addition, it is extremely cost efficient, lightweight, and quite durable. The first step is to decide how large you're going to want your greenhouse to be. Something like a 5 x 10 foot greenhouse that is around 6 to 8 feet high should be ideal for the average home gardener. Once you know the dimensions of your greenhouse you can figure out how much PVC you'll need and how long the pieces need to be.
You will probably find it much easier to sketch out your greenhouse design and plan your pipe fittings before ever beginning to build. After that, the first step is to build your base and add the ridge beams. Then comes the ridge beam, rafters, square support and ribs. You will need some sort of plans to go by when constructing each part of your greenhouse. The last step is of course to wrap your greenhouse with plastic sheeting.
The best bet for any novice builder is to get a detailed book on the subject, or download plans from the Internet. PVC can support various types of design including the curved roof and rectangular designs. It is a top material for home greenhouse builders and can even be found as part of some greenhouse kits. The Internet is a great place to research all different types of greenhouse designs, download greenhouse plans, see what books are available and even see pictures of different style greenhouses.
When you learn how to build a PVC greenhouse, you learn a new skill that can pay off, especially if you are a gardening enthusiast. Greenhouses are used to begin and nurture new seeds, provide a home for exotic and tropical plants, grow hothouse vegetables and fruits year round, start a hydroponic garden and more. Greenhouse gardening is a relaxing and rewarding pursuit that is easy to expand as your garden gets bigger. Even if you've got a small budget, you can make your own economically priced PVC and plastic greenhouse.
